Xiao Yang:
President of Supreme People's Court |

The following is a biographical sketch of Xiao Yang, whose
nomination as the president of Supreme People's Court
was approved by the First Session of the Ninth National
People's Congress (NPC).
Born in August, 1938; a native of Heyuan in Guangdong
Province; joined Communist Party of China (CPC) in May,
1966.
After graduating from Department of Law in Renmin University
of China in 1962, Xiao became a teacher of political
science and law in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region,
and a staff member in Qujiang County Public Security
Department in Guangdong.
From 1969 to 1981 he worked at Qujiang County Communist
Party Committee. Later he served as secretary of the
Wujiang District Communist Party Committee, in Shaoguan
City, and deputy secretary of Qingyuan Prefectural Communist
Party Committee.
Xiao was deputy procurator-general of Guangdong Provincial
People's Procuratorate and deputy secretary of its Communist
Party Committee, 1983-1986, and then procurator-general
and secretary, 1986-1990.
Xiao Yang was deputy procurator-general of the Supreme
People's Procuratorate between 1990 to 1993 and, since
1993, he had been minister of justice and secretary
of the ministery's Communist Party Committee.
Xiao Yang became member of the 15th CPC Central Committee
in last September.
